TikTok: Just Be YOU
With the massive growth that TikTok experienced in 2020 and its continued popularity in 2021, you may be asking as an artist, how you can make the most of this platform. The simplest answer to this question is - just be you.
83% of social media users say that TikTok stands out from other platforms because it offers joyful escapism, a sense of community, diversity, creativity, and promotes authenticity.
And if you look at any of the biggest TikTok creators, their growth has come from these four things:
1. Being authentic.
2. Being active on the platform.
3. Finding their community and niche.
4. Creating content that's interesting, unique and tells a story.
Obviously, TikTok is a space meant for short, bitesized video content but other than that there really are no guidelines when it comes to what or what not to post on this platform. Unlike other platforms (such as Instagram) where a lot of the content posted is curated and professionally shot, content on this platform doesn’t need to be perfect. In fact, you’re encouraged to come as you are! Put away the fancy cameras, grab your phone and capture something from your unique perspective.
Video formats like TikTok aren't going anywhere, with Instagram replicating the style with Reels and YouTube with Shorts. It's predicted that by 2022 (next year!) 82% of all online content will be video.
Utilizing popular hashtags, trending songs and sounds can help broaden the reach of your content, since what's trending on TikTok has a huge impact on the viral ability of the content. Pairing your content with music will help make the story you're telling, even more memorable and for artists this can also be hugely impactful on streaming. The average user spends approximately 26 hours per month just scrolling on TikTok, so you also want to create short and snappy captions so that your audience is more likely to read what you have to say.
Recently, Comes With Fries helped launch the new TikTok account for Australian, R&B and pop superstar, Jessica Mauboy. Using our TikTok formula, Jessica's account has now reached over 120.4K followers, and 770.6K+ likes. Ensuring that she remained authentic whilst utilising TikTok's story-telling and in-app capabilities, her campaign was extremely successful and you can do exactly the same.
When it comes down to it, TikTok is a space for YOU to be YOU. Get creative, be authentic, have fun with it and don't be afraid of over-posting. There's nowhere to go but up.
